Sébastien Bamsey discusses M&A activity in the London insurance market with The Insurer TV
A surge in M&A activity is reshaping the London insurance market. During the Bermuda Risk Summit, Sébastien Bamsey, Managing Director at Howden Capital Markets & Advisory, sat down with Geroge Abbott from The Insurer TV to discuss how M&A activity is reshaping the London insurance market.
“If you look back over the past 20 years, there is a very clear correlation between the insurance rate cycle and the level of M&A activity. As rates start to soften, insurers look for ways to generate more attractive returns than their existing book, which often means moving further into specialty lines,” said Bamsey.
In the discussion, Bamsey explains how the most recent deals have been funded from insurers’ balance sheets, reflecting the surplus capital many carriers have built in recent years. He also highlights growing investor interest in casualty sidecars as private credit funds look for new ways to access insurance risk while deploying longer-duration capital.
